Paint creates an opaque covering, while stain allows for the natural grain of the wood to shine through. If you choose water based stain, you can work inside without worrying about fumes, but if you go with an oil based stain be sure to work outside.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on what you are whitewashing, you will need either small or large brushes. Foam brushes work well, and it is a good idea to have at least one that is small enough to work into small corners and crevices. Use a drop cloth below you.
